Community Impact

The Foundation’s Community Impact programs continue to serve low-income and disadvantaged communities across the state by quickly and efficiently connecting them to resources that can positively impact their lives.

  • Fielded close to 130,000 calls through the Community Impact Call Center, which connects disadvantaged and low-income communities access to statewide programs and services, including diesel regulation support on behalf of the California Air Resources Board (CARB)

  • Served 21,495 consumers through on-site and virtual appointments for the Smog Check Referee Program and provided over $437,756 in funding to automotive centers on 32 campuses in partnership with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair

  • Offered 1,128 student training hours and provided over $17,000 in student wages through the Smog Check Student Technician Training Program

  • Connected 45,000 Californians with California Climate Investments (CCI) funding opportunities and tripled the number of Environmental Equity Student Ambassadors participating in the program which led to a 34% increase in program reach

  • Provided resources to 695 low-income Californians to replace older vehicles with cleaner options through the Replace Your Ride program in partnership with the South Coast Air Quality Management District

  • Integrated environmental projects for greater impact by leveraging Smog Check Referee site waiting areas to display California Climate Investments outreach materials, and promoted clean vehicle replacement incentives through the Community Impact Call Center

  • Partnered with Caltrans to conduct research with low-income individuals to inform a potential California gas tax replacement that is both sustainable and equitable 

  • Successfully developed and launched the Smog Check Referee Scheduling System in partnership with the Bureau of Automotive Repair, a tool that adds a wide range of functionalities and streamlines the scheduling process between the Call Center and Smog Check Referees, resulting in increased flexibility around reporting, quality assurance, and capacity analysis to inform programmatic decisions

  • Expanded support for statewide environmental and energy conservation initiatives through a new partnership with the California Energy Commission
